I'm a writer. I read a lot of comics. My friend Jojo is an artist. She doesn't read any comics.

At lunch, she draws super heroes from memory. Her memory is not always very good.

As you look at these drawings, I can not stress enough that Jojo is a professional artist, and a full grown woman. It's important to remember that.

Today Jojo draws Aunt May.
We’re almost done with our week of Jojo drawing Spider-Man supporting characters from memory. Today we get Peter Parker’s elderly Aunt May.
I have never seen Jojo try so hard to get a drawing right. She new that May had a “horrible old person fro… like a poodle” but couldn’t get it to look right on paper. She must have drawn eight versions of her hair, before settling on this.
It was all for naught thought because May’s hair is not as curly or poofy as Jojo remembered. Still, it was an impressive effort.
What Jojo did get right was May’s crippling sadness and worry. This drawing makes it look like she’s literally bending over from the weight of her grief over her dead husband, and worry for her young nephew. As well as an awareness of her pending demise.
Sheesh, I need to go lie down.
Under my desk.
Forever.
