I'm a writer. I read a lot of comics. My friend Jojo is an artist. She doesn't read any comics.

At lunch, she draws super heroes from memory. Her memory is not always very good.

As you look at these drawings, I can not stress enough that Jojo is a professional artist, and a full grown woman. It's important to remember that.

Anonymous asked: Jojo should draw The Maxx. It shouldn't be too hard: giant purple guy with a lampshade for a head.

I’ve asked Jojo to draw The Maxx a few times. Despite being intrigued by how purple he is, she just has no idea what he looks like, and has never heard of him. Sometimes, if the character has a descriptive name, like when she drew Black Canary or Blue Beetle, she can sort of guess. The Maxx’s name is not doing any favors here.

It’s a real tragedy and no one is more sad about it than me.
