I'm a writer. I read a lot of comics. My friend Jojo is an artist. She doesn't read any comics.

At lunch, she draws super heroes from memory. Her memory is not always very good.

As you look at these drawings, I can not stress enough that Jojo is a professional artist, and a full grown woman. It's important to remember that.

Today Jojo draws Psylocke of the X-Men.
Me: “Jojo, do you know Psylocke?”
Jojo: “The one with the thighs?”
Me: “I look forward to seeing it.”
There’s a lot to love here. She got the basic “swimsuit ninja” look down, although as sexualized as Psylocke is, she actually isn’t supposed to show any cleavage. Jojo knew to put weird useless straps of cloth on her legs but she didn’t remember they they were an extension of odd thigh-high boot things. The amazing thing is she DID draw in the wisp of hair that Jim Lee used to always have on her face. I don’t think I would have remembered to do that.
I like what Jojo did with the colors, sadly it’s all wrong. And she left off the sash, which generally has an “X” on it. I wondered about that since Jojo loves drawing “x”s on X-Men (as well she should) but it turns out there’s a good explanation. When I showed Jojo a drawing of Psylocke she said, “Wait, she’s a Marvel? I thought she was a Capcom.”
Turns out Jojo only knew the character existed because of Marvel vs Capcom 2. I don’t know why Jojo thought I was asking her to draw Capcom characters. That’s a mystery for another day. Also, I didn’t mention this on her Danger Girl, but I like that Jojo draws high heels like hooves.
