I'm a writer. I read a lot of comics. My friend Jojo is an artist. She doesn't read any comics.

At lunch, she draws super heroes from memory. Her memory is not always very good.

As you look at these drawings, I can not stress enough that Jojo is a professional artist, and a full grown woman. It's important to remember that.

Today Jojo draws Spider-Man. I figured Jojo would know what Spider-Man looks like, and she basically did. She gave his boots toes, I guess because she knows he crawls on walls, and she mixed up the red and blue on his pelvis area, but this is obviously Spider-Man. I’m more interested in how she drew him. Jojo, as you know, has a fondness for drawing men as if they were stuffed with potatoes. But we’ve seen her rein herself in with certain characters who she knows aren’t muscle-bound. So I think it’s funny that her Spider-Man looks like you took regular Spider-Man, stuffed him with potato-muscles, then squished him down. Also the way she draws his head is strange and oddly off-putting to me. It’s not wrong exactly, it’s just off. She did the same thing with Deadpool but there was so much else wrong with that one that I didn’t notice. She draws his face too insect-like, which makes sense but looks weird.
