I'm a writer. I read a lot of comics. My friend Jojo is an artist. She doesn't read any comics.

At lunch, she draws super heroes from memory. Her memory is not always very good.

As you look at these drawings, I can not stress enough that Jojo is a professional artist, and a full grown woman. It's important to remember that.

Today Jojo draws Captain Marvel!
All this week, I’ve been having Jojo draw Avengers who were not in the movie. Today we get Carol Danvers, formally Ms. Marvel and also formally Binary and Warbird.
Carol’s had a lot of ups and downs. She was created as the female version of the Kree super hero Captain Marvel, and she had a weird long sleeved shirt with no pants combo outfit. They she got her black swimsuit with long gloves and boots look. Then she caught on fire, and I don’t know what the deal was with her Warbird phase.
Also somewhere in there she got space pregnant with an alien space baby that grew up into the space rapist who got her pregnant in the first place (using time travel or something) and then she married him. All that happened.
But that’s behind us now! She’s Captain Marvel, she’s got a new comic coming out soon, and she’s got a brand new costume! I showed Jojo her new costume a few weeks ago. Let’s see if she remembered it.
NOPE!
Well, I like Jojo’s take on her. The gloves are just about right but everything else is a Jojo original. That’s okay though. She looks strong, and it looks like Jojo remembered that she can fly. What more can we ask for?
All we can hope is that either her or Scarlet Witch, Wonder Man, Black Panther or Wasp will be in Avengers 2. And they look a little like Jojo’s versions.

Today Jojo draws The Wasp!
I’ve been having Jojo draw Avengers who were not in the movie. As a founding Avenger, Wasp is the number one character I’d like to see in Avengers 2.
Of course Wasp has always gotten the short end of the super hero stick. She’s referred to as a founding Avenger now, but back in the 60s she didn’t get top billing on the cover and was only an honorary member, as Ant-Man’s sidekick. Plus, her blasts she shoots from her hands never do anything. I swear, every Wasp fight is her shooting someone with her blasts, it having no effect, and her saying, “Impossible! I’m hitting him with enough force to flatten a barn and it’s not even messing up his hair!” You know what would make that a lot more convincing? If we ever ONCE saw Wasp flatten a barn!!!!!
But I digress. Jojo’s take on the character is largely consistent with how she’s looked. She even got her 60s hair. She gave her a literal wasp body, which actually just gives her the weird broken spine women have in bad comic art.
I also like her “Wasp Stinger Harpoon” and feisty expression. Wasp doesn’t have a single iconic costume, so they should just have her look like this in the movie.

Today Jojo draws Black Panther.
This week I’m having Jojo draw Avengers that were not in the movie. Today we get a character that has a decent shot of showing up in some movie someday, since he’s one of Marvel’s most prominent black heroes.
I understand why Jojo gave him a full cat head, for a mask. It’s pretty much what she did with Hawkgirl. I also understand giving him a tail and I even kinda get why he’s shirtless with weird suspenders (alright, no I don’t). Near as I can tell Stan Lee and Jack Kirby themselves disagreed on whether to show his face or not, Jojo went with face.
I showed her a picture of what Black Panther is supposed to look like and she said, “Boring. He looks just like Batman.” I explained that Black Panther looks nothing like Batman because he doesn’t have a cape.
Also, here’s a picture of him with a cape.

Today Jojo draws Wonder Man!
This week I’m asking Jojo to draw Avengers who were not in the movie. I don’t know what I expected her to draw for Wonder Man. I should have expected this.
Wonder Man was an Avengers villain who joined the team (Avengers and Dragon Ball Z both feature a ton of reformed villains). There’s also a brother involved, and an android with his brain patterns… then he died and came back to life as an “ionic being”… or something.
I’ll always know him as the super hero movie star who hung out with Beast.
Anyway, Jojo didn’t know any of that and just drew him in Wonder Woman’s costume. Which is totally fair. Looking good Simon.

Today Jojo draws Scarlet Witch
This week I’m having Jojo draw Avengers who I’d like to see in Avengers 2.
First up is Scarlet Witch, Magneto’s daughter turned Avenger turned villain turned Avenger again turned villain again turned whatever she is now.
I didn’t expect Jojo to get Wanda’s weird headdress, and I figured she’d draw her more like a normal witch. I DID think she’d draw more red, but Jojo said in the movie they make them all wear black. I guess she has a point. She also gave her a beaker, to carry her witch’s brew around in.
The best part came when I told her that Scarlet Witch was Magneto’s daughter.
Me: Yeah, she fought the X-Men, then joined the Avengers.
Jojo: X-Men? Are the Avengers Marvel?
Me: Yeah. How could you not know that?
Jojo: I only know Who’s Marvel from Marvel vs. Capcom.
Me: But Captain America is in that.
Jojo: Oh yeah.

Today Jojo draws Finn and Jake.
We’ve gotten a lot of requests for these two so I figured it made sense to put them together. Jojo knows these characters really well and her own style is pretty close to Adventure Time, so I expected these to be accurate.
There’s a few things off. Jake’s eyes should be white with black around them, not the other way around, and Finn’s hat ears are meant to sit on his head differently. Finn should also be missing some teeth.
What I think is funny about this is Jake looks happy and Finn looks like a lifeless puppet that doesn’t know what’s expected of it. It’s like it’s saying, “Here I am… Finn from Adventure Time… Is this what you wanted?”

Today Jojo draws Ricardio from Adventure Time!
We’re going back to drawing Adventure Time characters (although we will probably post some more relationship advice in the future).
Jojo wanted to draw Ricardio, and I think I know why. It’s because she likes giving me nightmares. Normally her horrifying drawings, like Horse Thor and Bug-Eyed Chun-LI, are a result of her getting it wrong. This drawing is horrifying because she got it exactly right.
Man, I do not like looking at that. Not one bit.

Today Jojo draws the Hotdog Princess giving relationship advice! (the sizes of the images don’t play well on Tumblr, so click on them! Also sorry I’m bad at Tumblr!)

Yesterday’s drawing of X-Force’s Stryfe answering relationship questions went so well that we’re doing it for at least one more day! Today we get Hotdog Princess from Adventure Time responding to a query about workplace romance (although I don’t know what a princess would know about a workplace).

Jojo’s drawing is pretty accurate. She made her all dog, instead of part hotdog (giving her a dog tail instead of a hotdog… scrunchie thing). She also gave her a skirt she doesn’t have.

The advice is sound too! We got some really good questions paired with comic book characters to answer them, so we’ll probably do one or two more. So keep em coming!

Today Jojo draws Marceline from ADVENTURE TIME!
Over the months we’ve gotten many requests for Jojo to draw characters from Adventure Time. I’ve been hesitant because I’ve always felt the best drawings come from characters Jojo has barely heard of, and she’s very familiar with Adventure Time.
We decided to start out with Marceline the Vampire Queen and Jojo got it basically right. She gave her a belt and a white shirt, which is not her normal outfit, but a vampire’s allowed to change clothes, right?
She did make one stye mistake that I didn’t expect. She gave her a nose. Good guys in Adventure Time never have noses. It has been established that Marceline can transform into monsters when angry so I guess in this drawing she’s so mad she grew a nose.

Today Jojo draws a comic based on Avengers.
I’ve been asking Jojo to draw Avenger stuff, which means it’s turned into “Jojo really, really, really, thinks Black Widow should fight with a bucket of spiders” Week. She’s very convinced that if you dumped a bucket of spiders on someone, they’d WISH they could fight hulk instead.
So now we see exactly how Jojo’s version of The Avengers would have played out. Much shorter. Many more spiders.
At least one bucket full of spiders.
